Geotechnical Study and Site Investigation

Gulf Survey offers a wide range of geotechnical site investigations for both on-land and off-shore projects, the services include, but not limited to, drilling, in-situ testing, sampling, instrumentation, and monitoring.

In Gulf Survey, we believe that it starts with the best machines, that’s why Gulf Survey has developed its own Machining section, which provides the latest technology and flexibility to excel in site activities, by building the right machinery for the right application.

The scopes of services for the geotechnical investigation department are:

 > Rotary drilling, sampling, and field testing using different methodologies for both on-land and offshore projects (i.e., wash boring, air drilling, vibrocoring, Standard Penetration Testing-sampling (SPT), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Dynamic Cone Penetration Testing (DCPT)).

Gulf Survey’s rotary drilling rigs are of the top drive type, which might be tractor, trailer, pontoon, or truck mounted. All are capable of drilling more than 150m with BWF core barrels (i.e., 100mm minimum nominal core diameter and up to 160mm). Rotation speeds are variable between approximately 50 and 800 rpm. Load is applied to the drill string by means of hydraulic cylinders, which ensures that the operator has an excellent degree of control over the rate of penetration of the bit.

APPLICATIONS FOR ROTARY DRILLING

  • Soil sampling and Rock coring for the purpose of Geotechnical Investigations, environmental studies, structural analyses
  • Geotechnical analysis to determine the bearing capacity for various types of structures for both on-land and offshore projects (i.e., buildings, roads, bridges, pipelines, temporary facilities, and special structures).
  • Geological and Hydrological Investigation e.g., waste deposits or investigations of contaminated ground.
  • Exploratory drilling and well drilling for Groundwater monitoring, water supply and agricultural irrigation.
  • Earthing and soak-away boreholes drilling.

GEOTECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

» Ground Improvement and soil enhancement design and implementation following projects needs and requirements (i.e., grouting, soil mixing…).

» Soil Zoning, which includes reviewing the available data, data digitization in relevant format, data incorporation into 3D geological models, constructing gridding systems, and publishing relevant maps, reports, templates, and charts. » Providing Geotechnical Consultations.

» Geotechnical Design and analysis using various software’s
